Meet The Band: Enjoy Your Pumas

Last year, at the Live in Bellwoods series during North By Northeast, we were lucky enough to be introduced to Enjoy Your Pumas. Now, as another eventful NXNE is gearing up, we wanted to take a few minutes with the band and throw our crazy questions at them. They'll be playing The El Mocambo on Wednesday night, hitting the stage at 9pm.

Rosie Blais, Josh Benoit, Marc Gomez and Luke Janzen were all good enough to answer.

How do you describe your music to someone who hasn't heard you before?
Nifty, rifty, swifty and shifty.

If you could open for one current band that you haven't played with before, who would it be?
Tuneyards, Foals, Everything Everything

If you could play one venue you've never played before, what would it be?
Massey Hall in Toronto. Or Coachella.

Your all-time, all-star supergroup?
Dave Grohl on drums. David Bowie on vocals. Prince on guitar and backing vocals. Matthew Bellamy on lead guitar and falsetto. Flea on bass and head banging. Yann Tierson on piano. Tina Turner on backing vocals and shiny dress. And Chad Kruger on pyrotechnics.

What's the worst album you own?
Rosie - I went tot the mall to purchase the Hoobastank album.
Luke - The most recent Kelly Clarkson album.
Josh - Some shitty Godsmack record.

If you absolutely had to get a face tattoo of album art from one record, which record would you want to have on your face for the rest of your life?
Josh - The Beatles White Album .
Marc - Whichever Phil Collins album has his face on the cover.

What's your favourite song to play live? Why?
‘Le Buzz’. Cause it's super rhythmic and bursts with energy. It's also really cool that people like it even though it's mostly in French.

What was the first record you ever bought? When was the last time you listened to it?
Rosie - Savage Garden. Listened to it last week.
Josh - The Godzilla soundtrack from Costco. I heard Green Day's Brain Stew on the radio a couple weeks ago so that counts.

Who was your favourite band (or artist) when you were 12 years old? Do you still like them? Josh - The Smashing Pumpkins. I still enjoy them.
Rosie - Mixed CDs of techno music.
Luke - Free online techno.

John, Paul, George or Ringo?
Marc - I always liked Paul.
Luke - Ringo. He needs some love.
Josh - John. He was a mad genius.

Do you hate your hometown (Winnipeg)?
All - No! We love it. It's got a brilliant art scene that really fosters creativity. We could never live in a city where Burton Cummings didn't own a restaurant chain (Salisbury House).
