NXNE 2013: The Dirty Nil @ The Silver Dollar by Adam Bunch

THURSDAY — We've long suspected The Dirty Nil might be one of the best party bands in Toronto. "Fucking Up Young" had a lot to do with that (that song rules) and so did the video for the song (that video rules) and so did the kind of bands The Dirty Nil tend to get mentioned in the same breath as: Pup, Dangerband, Pkew Pkew Pkew (those bands all rule). But we hadn't actually managed to see them live until their Thursday night set at the Silver Dollar.

So this was the first time we got find out for ourselves. They kicked things off with "Fucking Up Young" and then blasted through a set of sweaty, fist-pumping rock 'n' roll. The drunken crowd, packed into the thin space between the stage and the bar, sang and shouted and sweated right along. So now we can say it with authority: The Dirty Nil are one of the best party bands in Toronto.
